JOB SUMMARY


The System Administrator – Backup will be responsible for managing, optimizing and supporting Wellstar's enterprise data protection and recovery system. Acts as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the backup infrastructure and performs backup system tasks which include installation of backup tool/agents, backup tool configurations, scheduling of new backups/ modifying existing jobs, running ad-hoc backups, debugging backup failures, scripting / automation of tasks, and completing restore requests. Maintains backup hardware and
software to supported revision levels. Maintains detailed backup infrastructure documentation. Requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other technical resources and backup vendors.

Rubrik Enterprise Backup Management:
• Deploy, configure, manage, and maintain the Rubrik enterprise backup and recovery
environment, including Rubrik Cloud Data Management (CDM) and Rubrik Polaris.
• Monitor daily backup and replication jobs, troubleshoot failures, and implement corrective
actions to ensure successful completion and data integrity.
• Optimize backup performance, including backup windows, storage utilization, and recovery
time objectives (RTOs).
• Perform regular upgrades, patches, and maintenance of the Rubrik platform and its
components.
• Implement and manage Rubrik’s data protection features, including immutability,
ransomware protection, and encryption.
• Develop and maintain policies for backup, retention, and replication according to business
needs and compliance requirements.
• Manage role-based access control (RBAC) within the Rubrik environment.
• Liaise with backup solution vendors (especially Rubrik) for technical support, product
updates, and issue resolution.

Enterprise Data Protection and Recovery:
• Act as the SME for all aspects of the enterprise backup and recovery infrastructure.

• Develop, document, and maintain disaster recovery (DR) plans and procedures related to
data backup and restoration.
• Conduct regular DR testing and validation of backup and recovery processes to ensure
readiness.
• Support data restoration requests, ensuring timely and accurate recovery of data.
• Collaborate with various IT teams (infrastructure, applications, security) to ensure backup
solutions align with business requirements and security policies.

System Optimization and Support:
• Proactively monitor the health, performance, and capacity of the backup infrastructure.
• Identify and implement opportunities for automation, optimization, and efficiency
improvements within the backup environment (e.g., using PowerShell, Python, or Rubrik
APIs).
• Provide Tier 2/3 support for backup and recovery-related incidents and service requests.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for backup configurations, processes, procedures,
and troubleshooting guides.

Windows Server Administration (Preferred):
• Assist in managing and troubleshooting Windows Server environments, particularly as they
relate to backup and recovery operations.
• Leverage Windows Server administration skills to ensure seamless backup agent deployment,
management, and troubleshooting on Windows-based systems.
• Utilize knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, and other Windows services in the context of
backup and recovery.

General Responsibilities:
• Stay current with emerging backup and recovery technologies, industry best practices, and
security threats.
• Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support as needed.
• Ensure compliance with data governance, security standards, and regulatory requirements
(e.g., HIPAA, SOX).
• Generate regular reports on backup status, system health, and capacity planning.
• Provide training and guidance to other IT staff on backup and recovery best practices.

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum 3 years Experience as a Backup Administrator with Rubrik (or comparable backup
technology) Required and
Minimum 3 years System Administration (Windows) experience Preferred and
Minimum 3 years Experience with infrastructure technologies ( network, SAN, compute, etc.) Required and
Minimum 3 years Experience in documenting systems for support, maintenance, processing, and

Required Minimum Skills

Strong understanding of backup methodologies (full, incremental, differential, snapshots). High
Knowledge of data replication and disaster recovery concepts. High
Familiarity with cloud-based backup strategies and services (Azure). Medium
Solid experience with Windows Server administration (Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022), including
Active Directory, Group Policy, and PowerShell scripting.
Medium
Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V). High
Understanding of networking principles (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) as they relate to backup infrastructure. Medium
Experience with storage area networks (SAN) and network-attached storage (NAS). Medium
Scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell) for automation are an advantage. Low
