Job Summary:


The Ethics Research Team Lead is a key role in the Ethics Department reports to the Manager of Ethics Research and Student Internship program. The primary role of the Ethics Research Team Lead is to oversee the development, management and implementation of ethics research both enterprise wide and with external collaborators as directed by leadership. The Ethics Research Team Lead will work with the ethics team, organizational leaders and other team members to develop and scope research projects and research plans. The primary responsibility of the Ethics Research Team Lead is to not only scope out research projects but to be intimately involved in designing, implementing, evaluating and disseminating project findings. The Ethics Research Team Lead will oversee numerous projects of varying size and complexity. This role includes both administrative (organizational) and strategic (consultative) responsibilities for ethics research. In addition, this role will be responsible for training and onboarding of research students, and other necessary resources needed to complete ethics research, e.g., IT, IRB submissions, data monitoring, etc.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:


Identify Scope, Cost, and Resources necessary to execute research projects successfully
* Determine objectives(hypothesis), timelines and deliverables of potential ethics research projects
* Estimate resources and participants needed to achieve research goals
* Develop research project plans, IRB submission documents and high-level task lists needed for completion of research project
* Responsible for thoroughly understanding and communicating appropriate stakeholders necessary for completion of an ethics research project
* Meet with various functional team leaders to define work necessary for potential projects
* Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel including those within and outside of ethics department
* Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the research project team
* Track progress and review assessment tasks to assign accountability to make certain deadlines are met appropriately
* Ensure research is completed on time and within scope
Deliverable development, procurement and dissemination
* Develop and deliver project IRB submissions, questionnaires for research project, assessment tools, scoping documents and research project summaries to affected team members
* Lead or help to create needed deliverable documents as assigned by project leadership, e.g., research submission documents, statistical analysis, methods sections, grant submissions and draft publication documents
* Lead development of conference presentations or publications for ethics department on research projects
Provide advisory and consultative skills to research projects and evaluation.
* Schedule and host regular status meetings with all stakeholders, keeping the stakeholders needs and research hypothesis continuously in view
* Identify potential crises and devise contingency plans
* Build, develop and grow any business internal and external research relationships vital to the success of the research wing of ethics department, e.g., creating multi-institutional projects to grow strength of ethics department
* Coach, mentor, others, especially, research students and inters on successful research projects
* Train other team members in research project development including but not limited to, writing IRB submission documents, data analysis, study design, grant submissions, etc.
* Assist in other operational and improvement and implementation ethics projects, as required
Other duties as assigned
* Provide facilitation and organization of large meetings, leadership teams and groups as requested to enhance research within and outside of ethics department
* Lead the gathering and dissemination of materials for research related meetings including providing edits to ethics research documents and improvement in research practice within the ethics department
Performs other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Education:

  • Masters Psychology or Masters Public Health or Masters Bioethics or Masters Philosophy or Masters Sociology or Masters Other

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

    Required Minimum Experience:


    Minimum 2 years in research development, implementation, and evaluation role Preferred and
    Experience in a health care system environment Preferred

    Required Minimum Skills:


    Ability to travel to multiple WellStar locations
    Intermediate or better competence in Microsoft Office applications
    Understanding of relational database structures and concepts
    Superior critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
    Exceptional interpersonal, team building and communication skills
    Ability to build consensus and foster change in organizational setting
    Proficient with basic descriptive and inferential statistics methodologies, analysis of survey data, and other statistical methods.
