The RN Clinical Nurse is an essential member of an interdisciplinary team, working alongside licensed and unlicensed caregivers to provide individualized, high-quality care to patients and their families. This role emphasizes proactive, patient-centered approaches to achieve optimal health outcomes.

Core Responsibilities

Exemplary Practice and Outcomes

  • Nursing Process: Execute the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence-based practices and critical thinking, ensuring individualized care and effective coordination.
  • Patient-Centered Care: Deliver relationship-based care that reflects an understanding of cultural diversity, adapting services to meet the needs of specific populations (age, gender, disease, etc.).
  • Partnership: Collaborate with patients and their significant others through effective communication methods (e.g., bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds) to keep them informed and align care with their goals.
  • Clinical Standards: Practice in accordance with current clinical standards.

Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Care Coordination: Oversee the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care through diverse interdisciplinary communication and timely documentation.
  • Team Engagement: Foster teamwork by promoting fiscal responsibility and supporting recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
  • Performance Improvement: Engage in performance improvement initiatives and support shared governance across all levels.

Professional Development and Initiative

  • Competency Assessments: Complete ongoing professional competency evaluations and mandatory education requirements.
  • Mentorship: Serve as a preceptor or mentor to nurture a qualified nursing workforce and promote a healthy work environment.

Evidence-Based Practice and Research

  • Research Promotion: Advocate for evidence-based practices and participate in performance improvement initiatives, including value analysis for patient care products.
  • Policy Compliance: Uphold healthcare policies, procedures, and clinical competencies, ensuring adherence to legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
  • Data Collection: Engage in data collection and consult experts to address clinical practice questions using evidence-based resources.

Resources and Support

  • Care Continuum Planning: Plan for patient care across the continuum while providing direct care.
  • Protocol Development: Collaborate with care managers to develop protocols aimed at improving patient outcomes (e.g., reducing readmission rates).
  • Resource Utilization: Support the effective use of human and material resources.

Required Minimum Education

  • Required: Associate's Degree from an accredited nursing school
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree (BSN) from an accredited nursing school; national certification in specialty area

Required Licenses and Certifications

Required:

  • Registered Nurse (Single State)
  • RN - Multi-state Compact
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum: 2 years of nursing experience in the specified area of practice
