Job Summary:

The Swim Instructor functions under the direction of the Aquatics and Massage Therapy Supervisor. Responsible for conducting Private/Semi-Private Swim Lessons and leading Learn to Swim Classes for various skill levels. This person will instruct participants for both swimming and safety skills in the water. They will have the ability to assess clients' needs by performing an evaluation of strength and ability in the water. Ideally this team member will have knowledge of water safety and teach within standard guidelines of any held specialty certifications. If qualified, the Swim Instructor may be required to lead participants through safe and effective aquatic exercise classes as needed. If qualified, may be required to conduct aquatic assessments as needed.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Lead private/semi-private swim lessons and/or group classes - Leads all levels of Learn to Swim classes as well as private and semi-private lessons - Teach within standard guidelines of specialty certifications - Understand contraindicated exercises providing a safe and effective approach to exercise - Assess clients' needs by performing an evaluation of their strength and ability in the water - Displays enthusiasm and strives to motivate participants to work out within their individual exercise prescriptions - Uses a variety of exercise movements during classes to provide a complete workout and maintain class interest - Provides class with exercise movements that are physiologically safe and effective and are of the appropriate intensity for the target audience and established class style - Utilizes teaching techniques effectively including verbal and visual cueing/demonstrations Provides support for daily facility maintenance and operations - Maintains cleanliness, general maintenance, and safety of pool, pool areas, whirlpools, equipment, and other areas in the facility as assigned - Participates in team meetings - Maintains consistent and appropriate communication with leadership staff, team members, and clients - Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs - Demonstrate accountability to schedule by avoiding missed sessions/classes and seek substitute instructors in advance - The ability to be flexible and accommodating as it relates to center hours, work schedules and scheduling appointments for prospects and members - Maintain industry certification in good standing and meet continuing education requirements - Must meet all safety requirements and certifications necessary to perform job duties - Demonstrate complete knowledge of emergency and safety procedures

Required Minimum Education:

High school diploma GED or currently enrolled in high school Required

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

Basic Life Support 1.00 Required BLS - Provisional 1.00 Required BLS - Instructor 1.00 Required

Additional Licenses and Certifications:

American Red Cross Lifeguard within 60 Days Required American Red Cross WSI Preferred Nationally recognized land and/or aquatic group exercise certification Preferred

Required Minimum Experience:

Minimum 1 year Experience but will train under supervisors’ direction Preferred

Required Minimum Skills:

Display strong motivation for community outreach and working with people. Displays excellent organizational, communication, and motivational skills. Displays excellent health and wellness lifestyle. Exercise independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative when performing roles.
