Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Collect complete clinical histories, assess patient conditions, and identify contraindications.
- Administer contrast media following established protocols to ensure patient safety.
- Ensure accurate patient identification and proper use of markers.
- Review images for clinical quality, release patients, and document procedures accurately.
- Respond to emergency situations, maintain crash cart supplies, and support life-saving equipment.
- Assist in all imaging modalities as needed.
- Confirm patient identity and clinical orders using two identifiers prior to procedures.
- Ensure patient privacy and comfort throughout the exam process.
- Use critical thinking to resolve ambiguous orders or concerns.
- Perform pre- and post-procedure care, including patient prep and sterile technique where required.
- Maintain proficiency in venipuncture and other relevant skills.
Equipment Management:
- Adjust techniques to minimize radiation exposure while maintaining image quality.
- Report equipment issues promptly for timely resolution.
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain imaging equipment according to departmental protocols.
- Operate radiographic equipment safely and ensure it is in optimal working condition.
Education & Communication:
- Use the AIDET framework (Acknowledge, Introduce, Discuss, Explain, and Thank) to explain procedures clearly and reduce patient anxiety.
- Address patient concerns, escalating to a physician when necessary.
- Provide clear instructions on exam preparation and aftercare.
- Contribute to staff training and mentoring.
- Complete all required departmental and hospital-wide education on time.
Quality Control:
- Produce high-quality images with proper collimation, shielding, and positioning.
- Ensure equipment calibration and functionality before each use.
- Accurately transfer exams to PACS and maintain proper documentation.
- Ensure that prior exams are loaded and labeled correctly before transmission.
Operational Support:
- Restock supplies and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
- Transport and position patients safely.
- Perform patient charging activities as needed.
- Apply appropriate shielding, immobilization, and support devices.
- Assist colleagues and work collaboratively to maintain department efficiency.
- Maintain productivity rates in line with departmental standards.
- Adhere to Joint Commission and regulatory standards.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Take on-call duties as needed.
- Perform other tasks as assigned to ensure smooth operations.
Required Education & Certification:
- Graduate from an accredited Radiologic Technology program required.
- ARRT Certification in Radiography required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from AHA required.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical Radiology setting.
Skills & Competencies:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for interacting with patients, physicians, and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail, multitasking, and time management skills.
- A collaborative team player with a commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
- In-depth knowledge of diagnostic radiology, radiation protection, patient positioning, and anatomy.
- Ability to adapt quickly and effectively to new procedures or technologies.
