Job Summary:


The Data Analyst provides data analytics and data presentation services to WellStar Health Plan. The analyst is responsible for creating detailed reports and dashboards to support business decisions using a range of technology and analytic tools.
The role is expected to gather requirements from customers, develop an understanding of the data, select the best tool and presentation, and design, develop and distribute the analysis or presentation. The Analyst also coordinates with the Subject Matter Experts (SME), the other teams and counterparts to ensure proper governance of the data and appropriate data structures for reporting. Performing documentation of many aspects of data governance. This individual will serve as a SME regarding the tools and techniques used for the information and reporting they produce and is responsible for timely delivery of accurate and actionable information to the organization.
The Analyst must comfortably represent the Wellstar Health Plan within the organization. This role will serve as a major contributor on group projects within the Wellstar Health Plan. The Analyst is also expected to have or gain a broad and/or deep knowledge in a variety of reporting and presentation tools used by the organization.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:


Analytics and Presentation Development
* Work directly with the customer to understand the business requirements for information needs.
* Select the most appropriate analytic or presentation tool and delivery mechanism for requests. This includes selection of the best graphical or numerical representation of the information and the appropriate level of interactivity and drill down.
* Design, develop, document, and distribute the selected analysis or presentation while working with the customer within the guidelines of the WellStar Enterprise.
* Develop appropriate level of insight to and understanding of the information being analyzed and apply credible qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis considering the type of data being measured insuring statistical validity wherever possible.
* Deliver end user training to the customer on the use of the tools and method of interpretation of the presentation.
Collaborate with customers and counterparts on data structure needs, governance and meaning
* Develop a working knowledge of the lineage, metadata and overall meaning of data being analyzed and document appropriately per WellStar guidelines.
* Identify and source where possible, data quality issues impacting analyses and bring issues to leadership and other appropriate individuals attention.
* Apply appropriate statistical and mathematical principles to all analyses.
* Have a working understanding of benchmarking and comparative analysis techniques and interpretation.
* Develop an excellent understanding of data generated, managed, and reported specifically by the Wellstar Health Plan and/or the Wellstar Health System.

* Maintain an understanding of relational databases in concept and how to practically work with the data housed therein.
* Maintain an understanding of a variety of technology tools used by WellStar to present information (e.g. SQL, SSRS, Advanced MS Excel, MS SharePoint, SAS, and other tools)
* Serve as a coordinator and informational resource for others within the organization.
* Continually look to maintain, grow, and develop knowledge and skills in applicable tools.
* Develop an understanding of current analytic and presentation best practice and trends
Other Duties
* Understand process improvement techniques utilized at WellStar and practice them with your own work processes. Participate on BI team on process improvement efforts to improve productivity and quality of output.
* Participate in departmental and cross-functional teams representing Wellstar Health Plan as needed.
* Work independently and multi-task effectively on multiple assignments as needed.
* Communicate effectively and appropriately with all levels of leadership and staff within the organization while representing the Wellstar Health Plan.
* Other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Information Systems or Bachelors Computer Science or Bachelors Statistics or Bachelors Business Informatics

    Required Minimum Experience:


    Minimum 3 years working directly with customers from requirements gathering, functional design, development, and delivery of interactive data visualization.
    Required and
    Minimum 3 years working with complex data sets in a relational database environment with tools such as SQL Server, MS Access, SAS, MS Excel, and other 3rd party visualization tools.
    Required and
    Minimum 1 year Computer/data entry experience. Required

    Required Minimum Skills:


    Ability to communicate with various members of the healthcare team. Ability to use Excel, Word and have basic computer operational knowledge.
    Strong background in designing and building publication-ready interactive and self-guided data visualizations using diverse sets of structured and unstructured data.
    Strong aptitude toward understanding technology concepts and techniques and learning to use new data management and presentation toolsets.
    Familiarity with SQL or other common query language recommended.
    At least intermediate skills working with relational database structures and concepts.
    Familiarity with common statistically appropriate means of data and process analysis.
    Personal desire for continuous knowledge and skill growth and development.
    Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    Strong attention to detail and accuracy and a sense of personal accountability.
    Self-motivated and well organized with strong time management skills.
    Ability to work independently or in a team environment and act as a mentor to less experienced team members.
