Overview

The Supervisor Cancer Program is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care. It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses – are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implements the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association.

Facility: Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center

Overview
This position functions under the direction of Director of Radiology and Cancer Administration Services. Responsible for completing and holding the CoC Accreditation for the Cancer Program at WellStar Atlanta Medical Center and supporting Cancer Program. Performance of this job will require a close working relationship with Medical Staff and Oncology Leadership. Good customer relation and communication skills are a must for this job.


Responsibilities
Core Responsibilites and Essential Functions

  • Managerial support operations within Oncology division
    * Ensures all American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer standards are met and helps facilities seeking accreditation to develop programs following the standards.
    * Leads survey prep at facility, completing the Survey Application Record (SAR) and the documentation from the surveyor.
    * Manages Cancer Committee meetings and ensures that Cancer Committee composition, meeting schedule, agenda and minutes meet COC standards.
    * Maintains documentation of Oncology Committee activities using minutes and Program Activity tool in preparation for survey.
    * Manages Cancer Conferences at each facility determined by the facility conference schedule. Reviews pathology reports and selects appropriate cases for presentation.
    * Supports team work, refers individuals back to their team to solve problems, offers technical and procedural consultation (does not undercut authority once delegated).
    * Manages grant funding for Breast services from grant providers. Submits timely reports of grant monies to appropriate departments and providers.
    * Runs reports for lung cancer screening program, contacts physicians with list of incidental findings from Emergency Room reports. Documents results in database for tracking and follow-up.
    * Manages navigation program for cancer patients, monitors patients, follow-up and continuum of care for patients thru the WellStar system.
    * Attend state and national educational activities as approved by the Director.
    * Participates in required continuing education programs.

  • Supporting Cancer Network
    * Develops effective strategic and marketing plans, along with action steps and implementation dates.
    * Effectively performs personnel tasks including hiring, counseling, promoting and disciplining staff as appropriate.
    * Completes performance evaluations in a fair and timely manner.
    * Monitors performance efficiently to explain appraisal ratings and to prevent serious problems.
    * Effectively mentors staff and subordinates to maximize their abilities.
    * Assists the staff to understand and support organizational policies and objectives.
    * Continually evaluates existing services and identifies new program opportunities.
    * Maintains high quality and image in all programs and services.
    * Develops and maintains a strong relationship with the physicians and identifies areas for business opportunity and support.
    * Aggressively identifies new markets for program growth.
    * Develops products or services to enhance market share within managed care organizations.
    * Develops and maintains data on market share costs, profitability and competitor data.
    * Collaborates with other hospital departments to further develop the oncology product line (for example, radiology to upgrade equipment; nursing in regards to inpatient care, nuclear medicine for radiopharmaceuticals, etc.)

  • Qualifications
    Required Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred or
  • Associate's Degree Preferred and
  • Experience can be considered in lieu of education.

  • Required Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 5 years Cancer Program Accreditation experience through Commission on Cancer, required, Strong organizational and detail skills necessary. Required

  • Required Minimum Skills

  • Knowledge of AJCC, ACOS, COC, NCDB, guidelines and Georgia cancer reporting requirements.
  • Strong organizational and detail skills necessary.
  • Must have proven ability to navigate complex systems, be effective in horizontal supervision and organizational abilities.
  • Work must consistently be accurate, timely, and organized with ability to anticipate and plan for meeting department and staff needs.
  • Knowledgeable with medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, cancer disease process as it relates to diagnosis, treatment, extent of disease, staging and disease progression required.
  • Communication skills are to be effective and reflect customer service focus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite.
