EMT - Ambulance

Job Summary: Attends to patients being transported by ambulance on emergency and non-emergency calls and is responsible for the patient's safety in route. Under the supervision of a paramedic this position delivers emergency patient care such as administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, oxygen and resuscitation with an ambu bag. This position provides emergency technical care at the scene of an accident or other emergency. Responsibilities involve preparation for response, response, delivery of care, transportation, documentation, and post response duties. Also may participate in life safety programs, community awareness programs, and other programs as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Visually and manually checks assigned EMS unit and equipment for functional readiness upon reporting for duty. Responds to dispatched calls within one (1) minute of notification between the hours of 0800 and 2300; then no more than three (3) minutes between the hours of 2300 and 0800. Completes Patient Care Report and documents applicable medical procedures and protocols. Accurately completes patient information on billing sheet and marks charge code according to the service provided. Demonstrates knowledge of the departments Standing Orders and applies said orders appropriately when indicated. Cooperates with ancillary departments and agencies to assure continuity of care and completion on any investigation of illness and/or accident. Uses appropriate levels terminology/language when communicating with patients, families, physicians and co-workers. Replenishes expended supplies/equipment and sanitizes ambulance after each use. Assists with daily station duties and other special details as defined by the Standard Operating Procedure. Operates emergency vehicles in a safe manner in accordance with applicable local, state and federal laws. Continuously observes patients during transfer and monitors for a change in condition. Relays all pertinent information and personal belongings upon arrival to the receiving facility. Participates in community awareness programs and public relation events as assigned. Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens - Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment. - Ensures a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures. - Attends/completes annual education programs. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment - Interacts with all of the above in a considerate, helpful, and courteous manner as observed by nurse manager and peers. - Fosters mature professional relationships with fellow employees in a courteous, friendly manner as measured by management observation and peer input. - Maintains professional composure and confidence during stressful situations. - Maintains open communication using appropriate chain of command regarding issues. - Conducts all work activities with respect for rights and wishes of patients, visitors, families, and fellow employees. - Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times as observed by peers and management. - Presents neat appearance in proper attire and identification as required by the position, department, and the hospitals policy. - Continuously displays a positive attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer service program in place at the hospital. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intradepartmentally to facilitate the departments/units ability to meet its goals and objectives - Utilizes shared management model to facilitate decision-making regarding practice, educational, and quality improvement. - Participates in a minimum of one staff meeting per quarter. - Supports the hospital's mission, policies, and procedures. - Demonstrates competence in using the Cerner computer system. - Completes work assignments on time/readily accepts assignments. - Reports to work on time and is at work as scheduled and confirmed by Kronos system. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary - Identifies and/or assumes activities relative to the developmental needs of the unit and the nursing department. - Demonstrates dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of the unit and hospital. Required Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent Required Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • EMT-Advanced or EMT-BASIC or EMT-Intermediate
  • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):Required Minimum Experience: Experience as an EMT Preferred Required Minimum Skills: Effective communication skills (verbal and written) required. Demonstrate willingness to be a team-player and a self-starter required. Proficiency obtaining vital signs using manual processes required.
