Director of Spiritual Health (Clinical)

Job Summary:
The Director of Spiritual Health will create, direct, and support the delivery of a complete program of spiritual health at a local site in Cobb County, to meet the spiritual and emotional needs of patients/residents, families, team members, and community, inclusive of all faith traditions and chosen spiritual paths. The Director will provide spiritual health care to patient, residents, families, and team members, as appropriate. This leader will manage programs and teams across sites, including chaplaincy training and Spiritual Health Volunteer programs. Recognizing the importance community clergy play in the offering of spiritual care in the health care setting, this leader will serve as a liaison with local religious leaders and faith communities' representatives of diverse faith traditions.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Supervision of Spiritual Health Team Members
* a. Supervise daily clinical work of managers, chaplains, including ensuring appropriate interventions, timely response, documentation, data collection, and evaluation
* b. Coach performance, as needed. Assess learning needs annually and deploy strategies to meet these needs using innovative teaching strategies including formal and informal learning methods
* c. Ensure timely completion of all annual competencies and CEUs by managers and chaplains to maintain compliance with Wellstar, ecclesiastical ordination and endorsement, and BCC status
* d. Write and deliver mid-year and annual evaluations for managers and chaplains
* e. Recruit, select, and hire new team members, in collaboration with management and Human Resources
Spiritual Health Department Programming
* a. Maintain a working knowledge of trends in the field of spiritual health and Joint Commission
* b. Develop and maintain a spiritual health volunteer program through collaboration with management and site-specific volunteer services, including onboarding, orientation, education, evaluation, and recognition of volunteers
* c. Foster a collaborative relationship with diverse community clergy and faith group leaders as a resource for patients/residents and their families/support systems
* d. Collaborate with management to develop adhere to budgets
* e. Collect and maintain data for spiritual health encounters and interventions to show impact of department and implement process improvement projects
* f. Develop education plan for managers, chaplains and team members, and collaborate with management on system-wide education initiatives
Integration of Spiritual Health
* a. Integrate spiritual health into daily workflow of patient/resident and staff care
* b. Lead, oversee, and participate in advance care planning with patients/residents
* c. Build relationships with local site-specific leaders and participate in local site-specific initiatives and committees
Spiritual Health Care to Patients, Families/Support Systems, and Health Care Staff
* a. Determine spiritual, religious, and emotional care needs regardless of faith-tradition or spiritual path, heritage or culture; provide appropriate interventions, including spiritual assessments, rituals/sacraments, spiritual counseling and advisement, debriefings, crisis intervention, and bereavement support and memorial services, etc.
* b. Create staff support programs to deliver the above-named services including debriefings and crisis intervention, as needed
* c. Ensure 24/7 spiritual health coverage for local site(s); is expected be included in the on-call rotation on a regular basis, as determined by the site-specific needs

Required Minimum Education:
Master's Degree in Divinity, Theology, Required or
equivalent Masters Level Degree from a graduate school, school of divinity or theology, Required or
seminary accredited by the Association of Theological Schools or one of the regional Association of Colleges and Schools or its equivalent Required and
4 Units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) completed at a training center accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) Required
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
Required Minimum Experience:
7 years of experience in professional chaplaincy with progressive leadership responsibilities in a health care setting Required and
2 years formal experience managing a spiritual care program Required
Required Minimum Skills:
Demonstrated leadership skills
Exceptional spiritual assessment and advisement skills
Ability to perform at a high level in stressful and emotionally charged situations
Ability to function with a high degree of independence and self-direction
Demonstrated ability to effectively offer spiritual health support to people of diverse systems of values and beliefs
Outstanding public speaking skills for officiating religious services and public speaking engagements
Understanding of human resources, budgeting, and project management
Working knowledge of health care organizations and biomedical ethics
Ability to coach performance
Competent in Microsoft Office programs, and experience with electronic medical record documentation preferred
