A Brief Overview

Performs a wide variety of complex immunohistochemical and histological procedures on various tissue specimens to assist pathologists in making a correct diagnosis of patients' diseases or conditions. Responsible for prioritizing testing procedures and completing those procedures in an accurate and timely manner. Must maintain proper records of testing performed in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations. Coordinates activities of students, residents and fellows in training.


What you will do

  • Perform microtomy for routine H&E stains, frozen sections, special stains, IF, neuromuscular, Mohs, and IHC testing. Performs special stains, IHC, IF, neuromuscular and various manual stains. 50%
  • Correctly orients and embeds tissue into paraffin blocks. Capable of embedding multiple tissue sections on the same plane within one cassette. 20%
  • Operates and performs maintenance on various instruments in the laboratory. Maintains adequate supplies replacing them prior to expiration date. 10%
  • Proficient understanding of the CAP checklist. Insures compliance with CLIA 88 and CAP regulations. 10%
  • Works efficiently as a team member to assure work is completed to meet required turnaround times and delivered to the surgical pathology department. 10%
Qualifications
  • Associates Other Required and
  • Education clarification: Associate's degree in science related field required. Required
  • Minimum 4 years clinical or research laboratory setting, or HT (ASCP), HTL (ASCP), MT (ASCP) certification at time of hire. Required
  • Minimum 4 years Histology Preferred
  • HT(ASCP) - Histotechnician
