A Brief Overview

Under the direction of the department laboratory manager and director, this technical position provides high complexity Histocompatibility testing, services and support to the Solid Organ and Bone Marrow Transplant programs and hospital clinics.

What you will do

  • Performs high complexity Histocompatibility testing on specialized platforms utilizing critical thinking and
    decisive judgement to ensure accuracy of results reported for treatment of disease and assessment of
    transplant compatibility in all laboratory LIS systems and software while maintaining the highest regulatory
    standards and in compliance with all privacy laws. 50%
  • Performs accurate timely assessment, quality control, and documentation of all Histocompatibility reagents,
    equipment, and software utilized in testing to ensure all systems meet the highest standards of quality
    related to storage, performance, sensitivity and specificity and that equipment is maintained and
    calibrations performed per manufacturer guidelines and deemed acceptable prior to release of patient test
    results. Participates in External Surveys to assess competency. 15%
  • Maintains high standards of Education and Competency required for Histocompatibility specialty by
    ensuring Histocompatibility relevant annual contact hours meet ASHI minimum requirements. Engages in
    self-study to advance knowledge in highly complex testing platforms. Ensures all hospital and department
    mandatory training is performed on time. Provides teaching of Histocompatibility testing procedures to
    visiting physicians, nurses, caregivers and students visiting the laboratory. 15%
  • Performs rotational living donor and on call after hours Histocompatibility testing of deceased donors for
    initial workup and final crossmatch with select transplant candidates. 10%
  • Completes in a timely maner any projects (eg. validations, testing implemetation, lab organization) or duties
    (eg. Activations, Orders, Tiedi, inventory) assigned to them as a member of the lab. 10%

Qualifications

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)

Bachelor's or Master's degree in relevant scientific field also accepted.

MT(ASCP) or CHT(ACHI) within 2 years Required and CHT(ACHI) Upon Hire Preferred
