Job Summary:


The Senior Manager, Industry Discovery and Venture educates and informs the business of market trends, emerging technologies, and business evaluations. This role will lead a team that manages a pipeline of external innovations and investment deal flow for Catalyst by Wellstar. This role will partner closely with other leaders of Catalyst to determine healthcare applicability of new solutions and potential for strategic partnership or investment.
This leader is responsible for the Discovery Portfolio and the navigation between discovery and mainstream organization. This role is to seed the organization with possibilities for game-changing innovations and new businesses. This role will report industry trends and research for Catalyst by Wellstar's focus areas.
This role will support the business and Catalyst Lab team through primary research of industry trends, writing, and presenting information found. They will work on a fast-paced team that will solve a variety of problems with the adaptability to adjust to agile timelines.
They will support the development of the Catalyst Venture portfolio and advise on strategic partnerships and investments. This role manages the initial deal flow process, including tech stack, initial communication to applicants, screening, and coordinating the deal flow meetings in coordination with the Head of Venture Investment.
This role will also have an internal and external-facing business development presence in the venture ecosystem.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:


Research
a) Conduct competitive, market, industry, and specific topical research through multitude of channels; evaluates and consolidates information into reports and presentations as required by situation; presents information for review, discussion, and/or approval.
b) Identify and proactively report internal needs and external changes, and opportunities
c) Stay up-to-date and have an always on approach to surfacing technological innovations while remaining active in the start-up, private equity, venture capital and existing commercial communities
d) Work on problem and solution mapping, business case development, establish relationships with third parties, source out innovative solutions, and create Request for Information (RFIs) for Proof of Concepts (POCs).
e) Understand the progression of an industry to communicate it with the business
f) Leads by example while promoting and supporting company policies, procedures, mission, vision, values, and standards of ethics and integrity
g) Work closely and collaborate with other members of the team
h) Other duties as assigned
Venture Deal Flow
a) Collaborate with Head of Venture Investment in preparation for investment decisions
b) Oversee the preparation of business analysis, business thesis and problem statements, competitive landscape, business/pricing model, financial modeling, and deal structuring
c) Oversee and reviewing business plans and pitch decks
d) Assessing market and company attractiveness to help identify compelling businesses
e) Identify and proactively report internal needs and external changes, and opportunities
f) Understand the progression of an industry to communicate it with the business
g) Leads by example while promoting and supporting company policies, procedures, mission, vision, values, and standards of ethics and integrity
h) Work closely and collaborate with other members of the team
i) Other duties as assigned
Industry Trends
a) Lead team that tracks and reports industry, start-up, and investment trends
b) Produce ongoing pipeline of potential solutions sets including capabilities, products, and partnerships that align to focus areas
c) Stay aware, track, and develop points of view on regulatory and government policy in healthcare technology, digital health, and related areas as it relates to potential strategic partnerships and investments.
Performs other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Education:


Bachelor's Degree Required and
Master's Degree Preferred

    Required Minimum Experience:


    5-10 years required in experience in market research, sourcing, business/strategy, or venture capital Required and
    Deep understanding of the start-up world and industry trends Required and
    Understanding of design thinking and innovation cycles Required and
    Knowledge of startup principles (lean canvas, MVP, open innovation, etc.) Required and
    Understanding of business development, corporate business practices, and organizational design Required and
