We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Perioperative RN to join our dynamic surgical team. In this role, you’ll be at the heart of patient care in the operating room (OR), ensuring safe, high-quality, and efficient perioperative care for patients before, during, and after surgery.
Core Responsibilities & Duties:
Preoperative Care:
- Conduct Comprehensive Assessments: Review patient medical history, current health status, and surgical plan to identify potential risks and ensure patient safety.
- Educate Patients and Families: Provide preoperative instructions, answer questions, and ensure patients understand the procedure and what to expect.
- Coordinate Care: Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery, ensuring all preoperative testing, documentation, and orders are completed accurately and promptly.
Intraoperative Care:
- Support Surgical Procedures: Assist in all phases of surgery, including sterile technique, patient positioning, instrument setup, and maintaining a sterile field.
- Monitor Patient Status: Continuously assess patient vital signs, anesthesia, and overall condition during surgery, responding promptly to changes.
- Collaborate with Surgical Team: Work closely with the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and surgical team members to ensure seamless surgical procedures, effective communication, and the highest level of patient care.
- Maintain Safety Protocols: Adhere to strict safety protocols, including infection control practices and patient identification verification, to ensure a safe surgical environment.
Postoperative Care:
- Manage Post-Surgery Recovery: Oversee the recovery phase, ensuring patients are monitored for adverse reactions to anesthesia and are safely transferred to post-anesthesia care units (PACU).
- Provide Pain Management: Administer medications as needed, monitor for side effects, and collaborate with the surgical team to adjust pain management strategies.
- Educate Patients: Provide clear instructions for post-surgical care, including wound care, activity restrictions, and signs of complications, ensuring the patient’s recovery is as smooth as possible.
Teamwork & Collaboration:
- Work Closely with Surgical Teams: Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the OR team to ensure patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes.
- Ensure Efficient OR Flow: Help maintain a smooth, efficient operating room by preparing instruments, supplies, and equipment, and coordinating with team members to minimize delays.
- Support a Culture of Safety: Advocate for patient safety by following established protocols, participating in safety huddles, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
Professional Development:
- Pursue Ongoing Education: Participate in relevant continuing education programs, certifications, and training in perioperative nursing to stay current on best practices and innovations in surgical care.
- Mentor Junior Nurses: Act as a preceptor or mentor to new nurses and surgical staff, sharing knowledge and fostering a culture of teamwork and excellence.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Required: Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Required: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in GA or compact state.
- Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Preferred: Certification in Perioperative Nursing (CNOR) or equivalent specialty certification.
Experience:
- Required: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a perioperative environment.
Key Skills:
- Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing practices, surgical procedures, and sterile technique.
- Excellent critical thinking and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other surgical staff.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to patient emergencies during surgery.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, quality care, and continuous improvement.
