Job Summary:

The Pharmacy Informatics Specialistis a Licenced Pharmacist professional that assists with the planning, implementing, testing, training and support of assigned pharmacy clinical information systems. Through academic and clinical preparation, the individual possesses advanced clinical experience, and utilizes this expertise to support and promote the delivery of safe, age appropriate and culturally aware patient care through the use of information technology. Will participate in the development of project plans, system support and routine maintenance of application related to clinical and pharmacy support. Facilitates optimization of the availability of clinical data to monitor patient outcomes and improve clinical performance. Responsibilities include system-wide and division projects, staff education, multidisciplinary collaboration and consultation and support of system-wide goals and projects. Works with other departments to accomplish the goals established for projects.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Develops, tests and coordinates efforts to build/configure clinical applications including tables, master files, dictionaries and other related system build/configuration activities. * Analyzes clinical workflows and be able to promote process changes to support the proficient use of the system. * Assists in the development of project-specific work plans, testing plans, go-live plans, task sequencing, and the extent to which tasks can be performed concurrently. * Facilitates the development of computerized documentation tools. * Maintains system documentation of the Epic applications. * Maintains current documentation of the assigned clinical applications. * Works to ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements. * Serves as a resource for clinical leadership and staff. * As necessary, maintains clinical policies and procedures, as they relate to computerized documentation. * Coordinates complex projects and assists project leader and manager where appropriate. * Provides status reports as requested in a timely manner. * Assist in planning phases of new systems and future growth. * Participates in the development of project-specific work plans and tasks. * Perform application build/configuration tasks per the project plan. * Provides leadership on assigned projects. * Researches specifications, plans, and if assigned, leads team through implementation including testing, training and ensuring quality assurance as related to hardware platform, operating system and / or software upgrades. * Analyzes and evaluates present or proposed business procedures or problems to define data processing needs and work flow. * Prepares detailed flow charts and diagrams outlining systems capabilities and processes. * Researches and recommends hardware and software development and as needed, additional tools. * Uses judgment and seeks assistance when guidelines, policies, and processes are inadequate, significant deviations are proposed, or when unanticipated problems arise. * May mentor and/or lead staff as associated with operational improvement processes and / or projects. * Records and maintains hardware and software inventories and user access and security as outlined in policies. * Maintains current knowledge with respect to relevant technology, equipment, and/or systems. Provides advanced level support support of multi-user Pharmacy Based Applications, including System Build, Facility Based Formulary Management, system configuration, training, maintenance, and support of these systems. * Helps identify, monitor and resolve outstanding system/application problems and issues with clinical applications in a timely manner. * Be proficient in one or more clinical applications so as to act as the system expert and liaison to end-users. * Demonstrates the ability to learn and improve troubleshooting skills by actively participating in education programs. * Performs on-call support for systems. * Assess situations and provides a professional and timely status under urgent conditions. * Troubleshoots and resolves, or coordinates appropriate resources for hardware, software, and / or connectivity problems, including user access and component configuration. * Provides advanced technical assistance and maintenance support to end users including, but not limited to, serving as first level support when assigned. Service should adhere to current service level agreements and recommend / provide additional training as needs are identified. Assist in the development and delivery of education/training programs that help the end-users maximize the use of the features and functions of the application. * Writes and / or reviews user instructions and trains as needed. * Creates training documentation that is user friendly, detailed and precise. * Serves as a professional role model within the clinical settings. * Serves as a mentor in the development of peers and staff * Initiates and promotes performance improvement activities designed to promote quality patient care and accountability Actively support policies, procedures and initiatives. * Attends regular meetings. * Participates in special projects as required. Enhance professional growth and development through education programs, workshops or other educational opportunities that may be presented. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree B.S. from an accredited School of Pharmacy. Required

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):

Licensed by, and in good standing with, the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy. Upon Hire Required

Required Minimum Experience:

Hospital and/or Retail Pharmacy experience Required and Minimum 3 years of experience in IT related activities. Required and Prefer experience combination of clinical practice and information system implementations. Preferred and Additionally, required analytical skills of a healthcare-based HIS system. Required and Training in clinical systems applications Preferred and Experience in Pharmacy management or Pharmacy team management Preferred and Previous experience with Epic Preferred

Required Minimum Skills:

Pharmacokinetics skills, and strong computer skills desired. Excellent verbal and written communication skills must be organized and have the ability to analyze and trouble shoot problems. This individual must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work as part of a team. Must be able to demonstrate and understanding of project management tools, methodologies and techniques. Ability to multi-task is essential, as is the ability to function in stressful and emergency situations. Strong detail orientation and time management skills are required. Knowledge of clinical practice settings and clinical workflow in a hospital setting are necessary.
