Job Summary:
The Advanced Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) functions under the supervision of the Nurse Supervisor or Office/Practice Manager and serves as a clinical resource and a role model for other team members (i.e., medical assistants, students/externs, and trainees). This role is recognized as a leader in the profession of medical assisting via participation and advancement through the WMG MA Ladders Program. Through participation in the Program, the MA has demonstrated a commitment to clinical excellence, medical group and community involvement, and professional development. Advanced CMA recognizes patient's needs and symptoms in advance, escalates appropriately, and follows physician's orders to provide care (including preparing patients for exams and assisting during treatments) and demonstrates competency and skills to serve patients of all ages including neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations, as applicable. The Advanced CMA serves as a preceptor, proficient in instructing and/or educating other team members of competencies and skills with strong communication and critical thinking skills, demonstrating professionalism even in difficult and fast-paced environments. The Advanced CMA has a proven track record of attendance and punctuality and exemplifies consistent adherence to policies and procedures. Under the direction/supervision of the WMG Nursing Leadership Team, Nurse Supervisor, and/or Office/Practice Manager, the Advanced CMA will promote clinical competency, prepare, and lead daily huddles, and maintain clinical quality. This includes but not limited to quality control logs, emergency equipment, inventories of medications and supplies, and programs (e.g., VFC), and survey readiness as it relates to back office clinical operations.Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Patient Liaison A. Provides relationship-based patient centered care that is consistent with population specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease, etc.) in a manner that adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity B. Always partners with the patient and significant others and/or family (as appropriate), keeping the patient at ease in the physicians office, and making the patients goals the focus of the plan of care C. Practices using current clinical practice standards Leadership A. Under the direction/supervision of Nursing Leadership Team, Nurse Supervisor, and/or Office/Practice Manager, the Advanced CMA: i. Plans, organizes, and assists with Physicians, APRNs, PAs, and clinical staff with patient care; provides leadership in clinical problem solving ii. Assists with staff recruitment as applicable; orients clinical staff to their job responsibilities, and provides timely feedback iii. Serves as a preceptor and/or or mentor for other team members (i.e., medical assistants, students/externs, and trainees) to ensure that there is a current and future qualified workforce, modeling professionalism and creating a healthy work environment iv. Complements and interprets organizational policies and procedures and clinical standards and regulations v. Assists in checking-off competencies for other team members, as appropriate vi. Attends Clinical Champions and other shared decision-making meetings, and shares information with practice staff via huddles vii. Serves and trains other staff members as a Super User for Epic viii. Assists with daily staff assignments ix. Identifies workflow process improvement areas, communicates with leadership, and assists in implementing various projects and clinical initiatives x. Serve as a source of information for on-going training and support issues for medical assistants within the clinic Teamwork and Collaboration A. Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model. This includes but is not limited to diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods (huddles), completion of timely documentation and promotion of a respectful, inclusive clinical environment B. Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a manner that is fiscally responsible and promotes the recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members. Professional Development and Initiative A. Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessment, required mandatory education, and population specific education B. May be asked to serve as a preceptor for onboarding Medical Assistants/students and is an exemplary role model for all staff or students for all disciplines to ensure that there is a current and future qualified workforce, modeling professionalism and creating a healthy work environment C. Assumes role of Liaison to Medical Assistantrelated Programs in WMG i.e., Ladders Program, CMA Trainee, Non-Certified MA Program. Evidence Based Practice and Research A. Promotes evidence-based practice, regarding safe, quality patient care. Participates in activities such as value analysis as part of the decision-making process in evaluating patient care products B. Upholds all health care system/organizational policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description and professional association including legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements and standards ensuring by way of example, such goals as TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar Health Systems safety absolutes C. Poses relevant clinical questions to advance evidence-based practice. Consults appropriate experts and uses appropriate resources and evidence to address practice questions and concerns. Resources and Support A. Proactively plans for the care of patients across the care continuum B. Participates in the development of protocols and procedures when called upon or through self-initiation in collaboration with care managers and other members of the health care team to achieve best practice outcomes C. Supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources Compliance and Risk Management A. Under the direction/supervision of Nursing Leadership Team, Nurse Supervisor, and/or Office/Practice Manager, the Advanced CMA i. Supports and applies a working knowledge of WellStar Health Systems Standard and Department Policies and Procedures, as well as Policies and Procedures specific to the Medical Group ii. Upholds all applicable regulatory agency guidelines iii. Leads back office clinical quality initiatives regarding Survey Readiness iv. Serves as safety and infection control champion v. Participates in clinical site assessments Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.Required Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma General or GED General
- Other / Certificate Medical Assisting
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.- Cert Medical Assistant
- Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
Current certification from one of the following medical assisting credentialing bodies: AAMA (CMA), AMT (RMA), NHA (CCMA) or NCCT (NCMA) Required and Must have a current BLS card from the American Heart Association, prior to hire date RequiredRequired Minimum Experience:
Minimum 2 years Must have achieved and maintained Level III status in the CMA Ladders Program across two consecutive program years RequiredRequired Minimum Skills:
