Interventional Radiology Technologist

Overview

Functions under the direction of the Clinical coordinator or dept. Manager. The interventional special procedures neuro technologist assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams provided by the department according to department procedures. The technologist has the knowledge and ability to obtain a quality diagnostic study properly and safely. He/she is responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. The technologist is able to independently perform job functions. He/she sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure. The neuro tech 4 functions independently in the Neuro-interventional setting within the vascular institute at Kennestone Hospital and participate in the neuro-interventional call rotation. In addition to the ability to function/assist with any other interventional procedures within the vascular institute.

Neuro/Interventional Technologist

We are looking for team players and people who want to learn something new everyday. This is a dynamic environment that is unique to the Atlanta Area. No other Neuro program in Atlanta does the volume or variety of procedures as the Vascular Instutute. 

Service Lines: (Know one? We will teach you the other two!)

-Body IR: Quantam Radiology - TIPPS, Trauma, Spyglass, CVLs, PTC, G/GJ tubes, and more.

-Endovascular: VSA -EVAR/TEVAR/TCAR, Extremity angiography, Thrombolysis, and more. Aortic Center of Excellence.

-Neurointerventional: Wellstar - STROKE, Coil Embolizations, Flow Diverters, and more. We have an extenisve Neuro program with high volume and are a comprehensive stroke center.

Clinical Skills

  • Completion of VI competencies
  • Able to use critical thinking skills
  • Work in conjunction with radiologists/ vascular surgeons/ cardiologists
  • Preps the patient for procedure
  • Demonstrates and understands sterile technique
  • Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for procedure
  • Enters appropriate charges for supplies and procedure(SIM CODES)

Quality and Patient Safety

  • Verifies patient ID using 2 patient identifiers, ie. Armband, DOB, verbal identification
  • Verifies front of patient chart for same/similar name sticker
  • Verifies Written Order and Consent, seeks clarification if order or consent unclear
  • Uses and understands preprocedural verification/ time out form
  • Understands and complies with site/ side marking when indicated

Functions under the direction of the Chief Technologist and Vascular Institute Manager. The interventional
special procedures technologist assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by
performing all exams provided by the department according to department procedures. The technologist
has the knowledge and ability to obtain a quality diagnostic study properly and safely. He/she is
responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment,
ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases.
The technologist can independently perform job functions. He/she sets up the equipment to provide
imaging service and positions patient for the procedure. Able to perform procedures in either the IR,
Vascular Hybrid and Neuro-interventional settings at Atlanta Medical Center, Kennestone and/or North
Fulton Only.

Qualifications

Required Minimum Education

  • Graduate of AMA approved School of Radiology Technology; Required and
  • currently registered by the ARRT. Required


Required Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 4 years minimum interventional neuro experience Required or
  • Minimum 2 years cardiology with 2 year of combined neuro experience. Required


Required Minimum Skills

  • Competency in all aspects of neuro interventional procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation protection.
  • Required special/advanced procedure registry as outline above.
  • Must understand anatomy and pathology as well as how they affect the quality of a procedure.
  • The individual must be able to communicate and understand verbal and written English language and display a positive attitude.
  • Must be able to function independently in the neuro-interventional setting and function independently in a neuro-interventional call rotation.

  • Basic Life Support Required
  • Registered CVI Specialist Required
  • ARRT Cardio Vascular Interven Required
  • ARRT Radiography Required
  • ARRT Vascular Intervention Rad Required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Preferred
  • ACLS - Instructor Preferred
  • ACLS - Provisional Preferred


Additional Licenses and Certifications

  • Additional certification in Cardiovascular or Vascular Intervention. Required
