Responsibilities

The Release of Information Coordinator role primarily serves as a facility coordinator for WellStar and our preferred release of information (ROI) vendor. Adheres to WellStar policy, as well as state and federal regulatory guidelines surrounding the release of protected health information. Ensures the privacy of the patient by safeguarding and protecting protected health information and validating the compliance of assigned requests and/or authorizations. Routinely reviews protected health information using a variety of electronic medical record databases and/or repositories. Performs data entry functions, utilizing, but not limited to, the release of information application, data storage vendor application, and all others relating to the tracking of patient data. Periodically, attends meetings and/or training to keep abreast of industry and regulatory changes affecting release of information functions and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Minimum Education

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Strongly Prefer: Associate Degree in health information management 


Required Minimum Certification/Licensure

  • RHIT/RHIA certification preferred
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License required
  • private vehicle insurance required


Required Minimum Experience

  • Three to five years working in a health information management department, including electronic medical record systems
  • Proven customer service experience and/or training. Experience in medical record release of information preferred


Required Minimum Skills

  • Position requires a valid Georgia driver’s license
  • Must be able to operate a car and travel to all accounts and facilities as required. 80% of work hours require car travel
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read, write, hear and verbally communicate in English
  • Strong organizational skills, demonstrating a high skill level for attention to detail, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to use fax, copier, microfilm machine, and multiline phone system and/or other required work tools
