      Wellstar Center for Cardiovascular Care Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship

      The Wellstar Center for Cardiovascular Care Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship is a one-year post-graduate training program for nurse practitioners and physician associates wanting to specialize in adult cardiovascular medicine. Designed for new-graduate and experienced advanced practice providers, this competency-based program integrates engaging didactic experiences, immersive hands-on simulation, intentional practice-based learning, and purposeful professional development activities. This competitive post-graduate fellowship accepts two advanced practice provider fellows each Spring and Fall.

      Throughout the program, fellows apply acquired cardiovascular knowledge and skills during clinical synthesis rotations in ambulatory and acute care settings across the Wellstar Health System. Rotations include rich experiences within the following cardiovascular service lines:

      • General Cardiology

      • Ischemic Heart Disease

      • Heart Failure

      • Critical Care Cardiology

      • Advanced Heart Failure

      • Cardiothoracic Surgery

      • Structural Heart

      • Electrophysiology

      In addition to practice-based learning rotations, Fellows gain a fundamental understanding of invasive and noninvasive cardiovascular diagnostics and imaging, clinical and translational cardiovascular research, and collaborative multi-disciplinary cardiovascular teams. Fellows may also have the opportunity to participate in tailored sub-specialty rotations within a comprehensive aortic program, autonomic dysfunction center, cardiac rehabilitation, cardiovascular behavioral health, cardio-oncology, and a center for preventive cardiology.

      The Wellstar Center for Cardiovascular Care Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship prepares nurse practitioners and physician associates to become expert clinicians across the continuum of cardiovascular disease. Upon completion of this program, fellows will have the knowledge, experiences, skills, and competency expected of all cardiovascular advanced practice providers.

      Location: Various ambulatory and acute care settings across the Wellstar Health System

      Time: Various shifts. Full time.

      The Wellstar Center for Cardiovascular Care Advanced Practice Provider Fellow will provide cardiovascular specialty care in a variety of healthcare settings and function within the bounds of the Fellowship Program to:

      • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams under the guidance of physician and advanced practice provider faculty, preceptors, and mentors

      • Perform appropriate and complete evaluations as clinical situations dictate for patients to establish and record patient's current health status

      • Develop appropriate differential diagnoses and treatment plans

      • Provide continuing medical care, including daily examinations, writing orders, chart notes, performing procedures, discharging patients, and completing discharge summaries

      As an Advanced Practice Provider Fellow, you will:

      Perform all pertinent clinical duties appropriate to clinical service under the guidance and direction of clinical preceptors. These duties include but are not limited to history and physicals, consultations, daily progress notes, discharge summaries, entering appropriate orders in EPIC (electronic health record), participating in rounds, assisting with bedside procedures, gathering clinical information and results, participating in the transition of care, viewing and interpreting (with appropriate oversight) radiographic, laboratory and other diagnostic information, forming differential diagnoses, and developing of medical treatment plans

      Keep and maintain a log of all clinical activity

      Attend all assigned medical conferences, grand rounds, and other in-person or virtual learning events

      Attend all assigned program evaluation meetings and provide current clinical activity logs and relevant program performance evaluations

      Complete all assigned reading and online curricula by established deadlines

      Remain current on institutional policies, bylaws, and credentialing requirements related to the cardiovascular specialty, including but not limited to federal and Georgia state laws and legislation pertaining to governance

      Collaborate with Fellowship leadership, faculty, staff, mentors, and clinical preceptors regarding departmental operations and system initiatives to ensure ongoing and future Advanced Practice Provider Fellow education, growth, and program success

      Complete any required supplemental certificate courses (e.g., Fundamental Critical Care Support [FCCS], Point-of-Care Ultrasound [POCUS], Difficult Airway Course, etc.)

      Participate in interviews of future Advanced Practice Provider Fellows as requested

      Minimum Requirements

      Demonstrated leadership skills and knowledge

      Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work collaboratively in multi-specialty medical groups

      Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, listening, and presentation along with the confidence to favorably represent the organization in both formal and informal settings

      A firm commitment to delivering high quality healthcare services with an unparalleled commitment to customer service as a necessary component for success

      Additional Requirements

      Graduate of an accredited adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner or physician associate academic program within the last 12 months or have practiced as an advanced practice provider within the last 12 months.

      Certification from one of the following nurse practitioner or physician associate national certification agencies:

      American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)

      • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP-BC)

      • Adult-Gerontology Acute Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC)

      American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN)

      • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certified (Adult-Gero) (ACNPC-AG)

      National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

      • Physician Assistant (PA-C)

      • Current/Unencumbered Georgia license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.

      • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications

      • Professional Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV)

      • In accordance with Wellstar Medical Staffing, applicants should be able to provide three (3) letters of professional recommendation. All references must have directly observed the applicant during their academic clinical training or observed them function as an Advanced Practice Provider within the last 18 months.

        • One letter from a physician

        • One letter from a colleague of same professional discipline (NP if NP applicant/PA if PA applicant)

        • One letter from either a nurse practitioner, physician associate, or physician colleague (preferably within a cardiovascular specialty)
