Overview

The Nurse Manager for Education works in partnership with the Executive Director Professional Practice and AVP Nursing Operations and Practice in collaboration with nursing leadership across the Wellstar Healthcare System to assess, plan, develop, implement, facilitate, evaluate and revise educational programing for all levels of nursing personnel. They are responsible for day to day support and leadership for the team of facility-based educators across the Wellstar system. The incumbent acts as a key resource in the orientation and continuing education of nursing staff at Wellstar Healthcare System. They provide leadership and management and hold accountable educators on their delivery of care and services through effective communication, observation, and measurement of specific education practices and associated outcomes. They hold accountable the educators on core competencies of education, role development, collaborative partnerships, research/Evidence based practice, quality improvement, on-boarding, orientation, and competency management. Responsibilities include clinical, financial, human, and material resource deployment and associated outcomes and goals.

The Nurse Manager for Education implements a comprehensive education program specific for the Wellstar nursing in collaboration with the Professional Practice Leaders and Chief Nursing Officers allowing for nurses at all levels opportunities to grow professionally. They serve as a resource throughout the system supporting facility specific needs to advance and improve the practice environment supporting nursing excellence and coordinate learning needs assessments. This position supports the Wellstar Professional Nursing Practice Model and principles for nursing excellence. They collaborate with key stakeholders in attaining Wellstar's mission, vision, values, philosophy and strategic targets and goals. This individual supports the quality and safety initiatives within the nursing division.

This position reports to the Director Professional Practice of Wellstar and is a key role in delivering on our commitment to deliver world-class healthcare. As a member of the patient services team, it is expected the individual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilites and Essential Functions

  • Organizational Leadership Practice
    * Demonstrates skill in navigating and communicating in a complex environment.
    * Fosters achievement of Wellstar?s Nursing Strategic plan via nursing education /development goals and objectives
    * Demonstrates responsibility for reporting to licensing, certification, accreditation, and other regulatory bodies for educational program compliance.
    * Supports the implementation of management decisions that affect nursing practice in the clinical area. Plans educational programming for new or changing programs of care. Assist in the development of clinical policies and procedures as requested.
    * Actively participates to affect change supporting quality improvements, evidence-based practice
    * Provides guidance, resources, and knowledge for professional growth of others.
    * Mentors colleagues, other nurses, students, and others as appropriate
    * Interacts with staff in an ethical, consistent, fair, timely, appropriate, and decisive manner in accordance with organization wide and nursing department policies.
  • Education
    * Collects assesses, and evaluates data and information related to education needs and other pertinent situations, including identification of trends, issues and supporting data (quality, safety, effectiveness) with cost benefit, efficiencies, and opportunities for learners in the implementation of a comprehensive education program, project and/or initiative
    * Assesses, plans, and implements and evaluates comprehensive education program to meet the orientation and ongoing competency needs and professional development needs of the which support Wellstar?s professional practice model
    * Evaluates nursing professional development practice using Nursing Professional Development Scope and Standards
    * Adheres to national education practice standards and stays abreast of and incorporates current research into nursing education practice
    * Ensures all programs meet regulatory expectation standards as well as standards within the department and are based on adult learning principles
    * Provides consultation to enhance continuing education, professional development opportunities and mentorship opportunities.
  • Evidence Based Practice and Research
    * Ensures curricula that is reflective of evidence-based practice and uses the appropriate methods of teaching to accommodate learning styles and the learning environment
    * Integrates relevant research outcomes into nursing professional practice development through effective learning activities.
    * Evaluates outcomes of the educational programs and utilizes findings for continued improvements. Incorporates objective assessment of classroom and clinical performance into evidence-based evaluation framework applying analysis and seeking consultation when needed.
    * Supports integration of research into practice and helps develop staff members knowledge and skill in the research process
    * Advances the profession through writing, publishing, presenting, and participating within and external to the nursing discipline.
  • Resources and Support
    * Administers human resources, facilities, materials, equipment, and technologies used for educational purposes within a fiscally responsible plan
    * Delegates tasks based on knowledge, skill, abilities of the individual, their role, the complexity of the task and desired outcome
    * Engages staff in decision making via shared governance processes and partners with others to promote relationship-based care delivery systems that support patient centered care and service excellence while effectively providing leadership and management for a specific business/clinical unit. Possesses and uses good negation and mediation skills
    * Serves as the unit/program chief retention and safety officer to manage talent and protect/carefully deploy human and material resources through effective use knowledge
    * Analyzed and manages financial resources; uses lean and other quality skills to reduce waste and improve performance operations and clinical systems of care; integrates marketing and communication strategies to advance one?s service line and organization.

  • Qualifications

    Required Minimum Education

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Education Required and
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from accredited nursing school with a Master?s Degree in related field. Required and
  • Doctorate in Nursing or Education Preferred

  • Required Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in nursing education Required or
  • Minimum 1 year leadership in an assistant nurse manager, manager or director level in an acute care setting Required and
  • Experience in education program design, evaluation and Lean/Six sigma experience Preferred

  • Required Minimum Skills

  • Knowledge of adult learning theory, quality improvement models in managing projects.
  • Ability to influence positive and sustainable change in an urgent and fast-paced environment required.
  • Exceptional communication skills (written, verbal, and nonverbal) and team building skills within a diverse group of departments.
  • Demonstrates initiative, a high degree of emotional intelligence, ability to inspire confidence, respect and cooperation of others, and resiliency.
  • Knowledge and experience with Excel, National Quality Databases (i.e. NDNQI, Patient Satisfaction), and survey tools (i.e. Survey Monkey, Qualtrics).
