Job Summary:
The Director of Financial Planning is responsible for the coordination of the annual operating plan as well as the long-term financial plan for the System. The position works
closely with the Executive Director of Financial Planning and senior leadership establishing financial goals and the related plans that support the financial and
successful growth pillars of the System's strategic plan.
The position is responsible for accurate monthly variance analysis reporting for the corporate entity, ad-hoc reporting; both retrospective
(historical) and prospective (pro-forma).
The position provides leadership to the Financial Planning staff and assists in reviewing new business plans and pro-forma financial statements. The position is responsible for staff development and training as well as leading multi-disciplinary teams for various ad-hoc related projects.
All of the responsibilities of the position are to be met within the framework of providing excellent customer
service and maintaining this culture within the department.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Coordinate Annual Operating Plan Development
- Coordinate all financial leaders and support staff to organize and create the operating plan work plan and calendar.
- Coordinate the development of all planning methodologies and assumptions (statistics, expenses, revenues, capital), including review and feedback from impacted parties at all levels of the organization.
- Coordinate the development of the annual operating plan and all required detail and support for presentation to senior leadership and the Board of Trustees of the System.
- Ensure the reasonableness and quality of the annual operating and capital plan through thorough audits, reviews, checklists and testing at all levels of detail.
- Ensure the inclusion of the operating plan and all components with the financial reporting system for plan vs. actual reporting, flex budgeting and other analysis.
- Creation and delivery of timely communications of the planning process to all constituents and senior leaders, as well as communication of all material issues encountered during the planning process.
Long Term Financial Planning
- Direct and coordinate a rolling 5-year long-term financial plan for the System.
- Ensure reasonableness of the assumptions contained within the long-term financial plan.
- Provide inclusion of new business lines, based on approved pro-formas, into the financial plan.
- Provide updates, as necessary, to the long-term financial plan (e.g. rolling forward new year,etc.)
Financial Reporting
- Review and coordinate team members to review monthly financial statements, especially corporate, to identify significant variances and communicate them to appropriate levels throughout organization.
- Direct the processing of all plan changes within the financial planning tool and the general ledger timely and accurately.
Support New Program Development
- Coordinate and direct new program and business plan development in adherence to policy and procedures
- Provide financial support to all levels of management regarding new programs and business plan development.
- Focus and identify multi-departmental implications of new programs and communicate to appropriate departments/management (IT, BioMed, Central Plant, Construction, HR, Safety/Quality, etc.)
Lead a Team of Corporate Financial Planning Analysts
- Responsible for direct supervision and development of a team of analyst.
- Lead that team of analysts to support corporate leaders in development of and reporting variance to the annual operating budget.
- Guide team to enhance and develop internal department processes and improvement efforts.
Required Minimum Education:
BS or BA Degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance or related field Required and
Master's Degree Preferred
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- Cert Public Accountant-Preferred
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
Required Minimum Experience:
Minimum 10 years experience Required and
Minimum 5 years in finance, preferably in the healthcare industry Required
Minimum 5 years of management experience Required
Required Minimum Skills:
Solid analytical and critical thinking skills, ability to process and provide necessary recommendations relating to complex financial data, ability to organize and deliver, on time, multiple tasks.
Ability to communicate complex financial information at all levels throughout the organization.
Self-starter with excellent follow-through.
Excellent customer service skills, ability to provide leadership and direction to staff.
Must demonstrate initiative to maintain and update technical skills set in a changing environment.
