Overview

The Medical Assistant (CMA) Training Program is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care. It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses – are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implements the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association.

Job Summary:


The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Trainee will be responsible for successfully completing a CMA training program with a Wellstar academic partner or through a Wellstar training program. The CMA Trainee will receive training through classroom (virtual and/or in person) and clinical sessions that will develop skills in communication, interpersonal skills, infection control, safety, preparing patients for examinations, assisting during treatments, and coordinating tests and follow-up care.

Under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse, or certified medical assistant, the CMA Trainee role is designed to provide an experiential learning opportunity for students to evolve towards skilled practice through the acquisition of basic clinical skills and advancing their knowledge related to patient care. Upon successful completion of this program, the CMA Trainee will be prepared to successfully pass a certification exam through an approved medical assisting credentialing body.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:


- Responsible for attending required classes, completing course work in a timely manner and remaining engaged for duration of the CMA Trainee program. Note: Throughout the duration of the course, scope of duties while working in the clinic does NOT include medication administration and/or participation in the medication validation or process. Scope is also restricted as it relates to the performance of any invasive procedure as defined as a medical procedure that invades (enters) the body, usually by cutting or puncturing the skin or by inserting instruments into the body. The only exception would be point of care testing specimen collection via capillary blood, pharyngeal and nasal swab methods, subject to successful completion of Initial Competency Assessment (ICA).

BLS - Instructor 0.00 Upon Hire Required
BLS - Provisional 0.00 Upon Hire Required
Cert Nurse Assistant 2.00 Preferred

Additional Licenses and Certifications:

Required Minimum Experience:


Minimum 1 year experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (with current certification)
Required or
Minimum 1 year one (1) year of experience in an administrative front office support role within the Wellstar Medical Group (WMG) Required
Graduates of the Wellstar Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Trainee program must serve a minimum of one year in the CNA role at Wellstar before becoming eligible for this program.
