Job Summary:


This position is a matrix report to the Wellstar Chief Nurse Executive and Chief Information Officer. Works collaboratively with Wellstar Nursing and Information Technology leaders, providers and staff across the organization and the enterprise. Works collaboratively with the Chief Medical Information Officer and other multi-disciplinary stakeholders to achieve strategic organizational informatics goals and priorities.


The Chief Nursing Informatics Officer is responsible for strategic and operational leadership in the development, deployment, and integration of clinical information systems to support nursing, providers, allied health staff clinicians and patients with a specific focus on Nursing.


Duties include improving the clinical quality, safety and operational integrity of clinical information systems, and integrating quality improvement and regulatory standards. Additional responsibilities include serving as the primary liaison for Nursing for coordinating Wellstar efforts regarding Information systems to enhance electronic capabilities and improve efficiencies. Consults on clinical and nursing related IT implementations in conjunction with Patient Safety Officer, CMIO, and CIO to mitigate unintended consequences to patient safety.


In partnership with the CMIO, provides clinical leadership to ensure successful adoption of clinical information systems that result in sustainable system and clinical performance. Builds strong relationships and fosters consensus at all levels of the organization to assure the achievement of goals and objectives. Effective management and leadership skills are utilized to effect change.
Promotes a positive organizational culture, is committed to quality services, and represents the organization in appropriate forums. Remains current with new technologies, national and local issues affecting healthcare information technology and their potential influence on the institution.

Required Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors in Nursing is required.
  • Masters in Nursing is preferred.

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

  • All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • Registered Nurse (GA) or RN - Multi-state Compact is required.

Required Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum 12 years of Clinical Informatics is required.

Required Minimum Skills:

  • Informatics certification, EPIC Content Builder or Clinical Informaticist
  • Nursing Informatics or IT background or EHR conversion
  • Leading IT or informatics teams to drive clinical outcomes
  • Chair nursing departments or committees.
  • Clinical nursing experience
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals and service providers to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, objectives, or patient care standards, based on evidence-based practice guidelines or expert opinion.
