Job Summary:
Will work to facilitate and coordinate the pre-surgery process for patients having Bariatric Surgery. Must work seamlessly with, patients, insurance companies, vendors and other clinic specialties within the Medical Group and outside of Wellstar. Responsible for ensuring patients are meeting and complying with required criteria to have Bariatric Surgery.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Coordinates with patients at all phases of the pre-surgery process (surgery clearances, office visits, clearance visits) to ensure high customer satisfaction and optimal outcomes.
* Acts as patient navigator through all phases of pre-surgery process.
* Troubleshoots any problems presented by patients, medical staff, hospital and insurance companies.
* Reviews and discuss with patients their insurance benefits and out of pocket cost.
* Contacts Insurance Companies to determine coverage and Criteria for Bariatric surgery

* Organizes all educational programs and support group meetings.
Provides direct patient education as needed.
* Conducts education (group, one-on-one) to ensure timely outcomes related to preparation for surgery
* Assist in Insurance prior authorizations and communication with the patient about insurance requirements and additional insurance needs. May assist with facilitating peer to peer calls upon denial of cases.
* May be asked to assist with monthly support groups and /or information sessions.
Responsible for being the liaison between Bariatric Surgery and its Bariatric Platform Vendor.
* Monitors the Bariatric Application program with our Bariatric Vendor
* Runs and monitors reports generated by the Bariatric Application Platform.
* Ensures reports are distributed to the correct individuals in Bariatric Surgery to include clinical staff and management.
* Reviews and recommends updates to Policies and Procedures, as needed.
* Updates the practice during staff meetings and urgent changes to the Bariatric Platform.
Liaison between the patient and clinical departments in Bariatric Surgery.
* In conjunction with the Practice Manager reviews and analysis preoperative reports indicating the status of patients in the preoperative process
* Informs patients when they fall behind in the preoperative process with respect to clearances and appointments.
* Makes recommendations to Clinical staff about patient compliance.
* Monitors activity related to the preoperative process
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
High school diploma Required
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
Required Minimum Experience:
Minimum 5 years working with patients in a clinical setting and handling insurance benefit verifications and coverage issues required.
Required Minimum Skills:
Strong organizational skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; strong interpersonal skills with positive presence; good problem solving skills.
