Wellstar’s Behavioral Health Service Line is pleased to announce a new position for a Pediatric Clinical Psychologist. This clinician will support Wellstar’s expanded behavioral health services for the child and adolescent population in east Paulding County. The clinician will work with a multi-disciplinary team of child/adolescent psychiatrists, a pediatric neuropsychologist, and masters-level therapists – with an aim of helping to develop a comprehensive pediatric behavioral health program that meets the needs of the Paulding community. The pediatric psychologist will provide psychological testing and evidence-based therapy and intervention services to support the needs of children, adolescents, and their families.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Diverse skill set required, including diagnostic and intervention expertise.
  • Clinician role with up to 50% of time allocated to testing and intervention services for individuals up to age 18.
  • Capable of conducting brief and comprehensive psychological testing using various methods (e.g., intelligence, child development, cognition, personality, social/emotional functioning).
  • Responsible for writing psychological reports and documenting in Wellstar’s electronic medical record system (Epic).
  • 50% of time dedicated to brief interventions using evidence-based methods.
  • Proficient in applying cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), parent-child interactive therapy, and other treatments to diverse populations.
  • Regular consultation with Wellstar child/adolescent psychiatrists, therapists, pediatricians, etc.
  • May provide intermittent clinical supervision, staff trainings, and serve on committees under Behavioral Health and Pediatric Service Line structures.

Skills Needed:

  • Advanced assessment skills in clinical and child/adolescent psychology.
  • Familiarity with various psychological tests and methods.
  • Ability to integrate complex quantitative and qualitative information for diagnostic conceptualizations.
  • Strong observational skills and communication abilities, both verbal and written.
  • Comfortable working with patients with moderate acuity psychiatric and developmental conditions.
  • Experience with a range of conditions (e.g., ADHD, autism, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, anxiety, somatic symptom disorders, school-avoidance).
  • Advanced knowledge of suicidality risk factors and sound professional judgment for inpatient/involuntary treatment decisions.
  • Strong interventionist skills, able to apply evidence-based treatments effectively.
  • Ability to understand and influence human behavior to facilitate meaningful changes.

Required Minimum Education & Experience: (1) a doctorate degree (Ph.D./Psy.D.) in clinical psychology from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), (2) completion of an APA-accredited internship, (3) completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in an area of Clinical Psychology, (4) licensure or license-eligibility as a Psychologist in the State of Georgia, and (5) advanced training on internship/fellowship working with a child/adolescent population. Whereas active board-certification (ABPP) is not required at the time of hire, the clinician should possess board-certification in Clinical Child/Adolescent Psychology within 36 months of the date of hire.
