Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionateInpatient Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)to join our dynamic team atCobb Medical Center. In this role, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric care to patients in an inpatient setting. As a key member of the multidisciplinary care team, you will assess, diagnose, and treat patients with mental health disorders, ensuring a high standard of care and contributing to positive patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Care: Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, and manage psychiatric care for adult and geriatric patients admitted to the inpatient unit.

  • Diagnosis and Treatment: Diagnose mental health conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety, psychosis, and other psychiatric illnesses. Prescribe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.

  • Medication Management: Monitor and adjust medications as needed, providing ongoing education to patients and families about medication management.

  • Collaborative Care: Work closely with psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated care. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and treatment planning.

  • Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention and risk assessments for patients in acute psychiatric distress. Handle psychiatric emergencies in a calm, professional manner.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely medical records, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards.

  • Patient and Family Education: Provide education to patients and families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies.

  • Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices in inpatient psychiatric care.

Qualifications

  • Education:

    • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.

    • Board-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).

  • Licensing & Certification:

    • Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Georgia.

    • Active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in Georgia.

    • Current certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in psychiatric or mental health settings, preferably in inpatient care.

    • Experience working with diverse patient populations and complex mental health conditions.

  • Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong clinical skills in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.

    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.

    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

    • Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an inpatient psychiatric setting or acute care psychiatric hospital.

  • Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) and documentation standards.

  • Bilingual (Spanish or other languages) a plus.
