Job Summary:


The Network Engineer Connectivity installs, maintains, recommends, documents, and supports network system software/hardware. Provides technical assistance with the design, process improvements, planning, operation, service, maintenance, evaluation and testing of a multi-user information systems environment. The Network Engineer Connectivity duties include systems/utility/vulnerability monitoring, software/hardware evaluation, recommends/evaluates system hardware and software service packs, release levels, configurations etc., evaluates log reports and makes/completes recommendations based on these reports, technical staff training, technical software/hardware documentation and day-to-day direction and assistance of the network environment. Assists in providing recommendations to executive level staff on system evaluations/testing and report findings. All other duties as assigned.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the administration of the Network environment to include:
  • Compliance
  • Ensures compliance with all software copyright and licensing laws and requirements.
  • Operations and Maintenance Supports and maintains Network hardware and software in accordance with an established technology refresh plan ensuring that organizational business needs are met.
  • Customer Satisfaction Acts collaboratively in assessing, evaluating and providing Network support services within and across organizational business units; ensures collaboration within, and across, all departmental boundaries, strengthening existing relationships and alliances, and forming new ones, so that customer needs are met.
  • Timeliness Effectively contributes to IT projects, special assignments and overall workload in meeting established deadlines and project milestones; completes projects and tasks on time and within budget; completes all IT projects, assignments, milestones, and regular responsibilities within agreed-upon deadlines to avoid serious slippage of dependent/ contingent projects in order to ensure ultimate project success.
  • Clearly documents system/application support issues and resolutions in the call tracking system for of all assigned support calls.
  • Maintains service level agreements (SLAs) and follows up with customers.
  • Coordinates the resolution of critical problems and assists in resolution where needed.
  • Escalates problems to the proper person/group in a timely manner.
  • Properly documents all work orders and problem calls in tracking system.
  • Maintains Network information/documentation in the centralized tracking system.
  • The Network Engineer Connectivity installs, maintains, documents, and supports network system software/hardware in conjunction with the Sr. Network Engineer.
  • Assists Sr. Network Engineer in the recommendation; implements, configures, maintains, and documents all infrastructure hardware and software management systems. (i.e. Switches, Routers, Terminal Servers, CiscoWorks, Solarwinds, OpenNMS, F5 Load Balancers, Syslog, Netscout etc.)
  • Assists in network system installations and testing activities and projects.
  • Provides ongoing support for the network infrastructure.
  • Maintains and monitors network systems. Completes daily monitoring of system log reports and escalates/completes as necessary.
  • Completes of assigned projects on time or adjusts target dates to meet revised priorities with approval from supervisor.
  • Systems/utility/vulnerability monitoring (security) and software/hardware evaluation. Maintains system vulnerability mechanisms and standards.
  • Assists Sr. Network Engineer in evaluating new technologies (software/hardware) pertaining to the WellStar Strategic Plan. Recommends/evaluates system hardware and software service packs, release levels, configurations etc
  • Assists Sr. Network Engineer with feasibility studies for the installation of new hardware and or software.
  • Prepares periodic and or as requested status reports in a timely manner.
  • Works independently on routine assignments. In conjunction with the Sr. Network Engineer on complex projects. Strives to improve skills & problem solving abilities.
  • Create/follow project-specific work plans, task sequencing, and the extent to which tasks can be performed concurrently.
  • Identifies/Implements corrective action/resolves 2 chronic network support/project issues per year.
  • Able to work in a team environment. Reviews critical decisions with the Sr. Network Engineer or the Section Manager.
  • Exhibit tact, professionalism, good personal grooming and create a favorable impression to the public and all health system staff through professional dress and good customer service skills.
  • Actively support IT policies, procedures and initiatives.
  • Assists Sr. Network Engineer in the creation and maintains standards as they relate to delivery of network services.
  • Assists Sr. Network Engineer in the Evaluation/Documents Network operating systems, Network system releases, service packs, ROM updates, Network system configurations etc.
  • Maintains technical documentation.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through education programs, workshops or other educational opportunities that may be presented. Assists in the training of staff. Keeps abreast of current events.
  • Demonstrates the ability to learn and improve troubleshooting skills by actively participating in education programs.
  • Attends regular departmental and Towne Hall meetings and promote / exemplify excellent customer service as aligned with WellStar's Standards of Gold.
  • Creates training documentation that is user friendly, detailed and precise.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma General or GED General or Bachelors Computer Science or Bachelors Information Systems

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):


All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

Required Minimum Experience:

  • 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience can be used in lieu of education. Required and
  • Minimum 4 years' experience with networking technologies (IP Data/VOIP communications, network operating systems, and security background) Required

Required Minimum Skills:

  • Knowledgeable in LAN/WAN switching technologies and enterprise computing environment, including 10/100/1000 Ethernet. Knowledgeable in VLANs, Subnetting and Network Segmentation; network wiring/cabling; routers and switches.
  • Knowledgeable of network troubleshooting techniques, TCP/IP stack, distributed processing operations, procedures and equipment.
  • Authentication Technologies (LDAP/Radius/Tacacs), Firewall Administrative Management, etc.
  • Knowledge of System Admin (Microsoft Servers), Desktop (Hardware and Software).
  • Can support DNS/DHCP. Strong communication and customer relation skills.
  • Detail Oriented and ability to update documentation (Procedures and Visio Diagrams).
  • Maintain Network Support Tools used for monitoring Enterprise devices.
  • The individual must be able to communicate and have good team building skills.
